| Cirkadia's new iNavigate 3.4 is another menu-making program that makes it extremely easy on designers, taking them through the process step by step. |
Consider:
-
It uses 100 percent client-side processing, which means
it requires no run-time components, plug-ins, or server
interaction.
-
Its menus expand and collapse dynamically.
-
It works with all the major browsers, from IE 4.0 up,
Netscape 6.0 up, Opera 5.12 up, Mozilla, and other
Gecko-powered browsers. XML menus created in the
program are limited to the newer browsers.
When you add to that iNavigate's ability to allow
drag-and-drop menu creation and unlimited menu depths,
the program has a lot to offer users.
iNavigate features its own Generator and many, many
options. In fact, there are so many options while
building a menu that it may make it seem like overkill
for some users. What prevents that is that even menus
that seem less complex can still be very nice dynamic
menus.
There are nine different areas in which users can
input information and make choices, but not all
are necessary for a more simple menu.
Highlight of the Generator is the previously
mentioned feature that allows users to drag-and-drop
HTML files into the menu structure. Further, users can set
all options for the menu from within the Generator,
including targets for links.
Other Generator features include frames mode, path
generation, auto close menus, XML support, and
external editor integration. The program allows users
to view XML, which can give them an insight into how
to write that language.
The menu's HTML is the same for all pages, and
iNavigate highlights the current page. The program
easily handles sub-pages, and as users move
through a web site, iNavigate automatically
synchronizes the menu on each page that is opened.
One of the nicest features is that no matter which page
visitors use to enter your site, iNavigate will display
the correct menu item, which is a real benefit to those
who bookmark particular pages of a site.
Users can also use their own graphics on the menu
— including multiple graphics to use on different
items within the menu — and the program
automatically keeps those graphics correctly
aligned by using dynamic text font and size alteration.
For those dealing with server application
compatibility, iNavigate allows for the
particular URL, query strings, and regular
expressions necessary for routing and communication.
iNavigate is a rarity in that it seems to make more
sense to buy the $139 version for unlimited use —
if you have the need — than it does the $39
version for a single site. But if users have a single,
large site, or if they wish to have pinpoint control
over every facet of their navigation, $39 is good deal.
